Concerns with PetMeds and Other Online Pharmacies
When the medications come from an online distributor that does not order from the manufacturer, and does not disclose their source there is no way of knowing if the medications received are FAKE, EXPIRED, STORED IMPROPERLY, or even the INCORRECT DOSAGE. Medicines from PetMeds are NOT GUARANTEED by the company to be effective or authentic.
Many of the medications purchased through online companies are so affordable because they are MANUFACTURED IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES where there are RELAXED STANDARDS, and DIFFERENT DRUG REQUIREMENTS.
Ex. Zoetis is the manufacturer for the popular canine/feline flea/worm product Revolution. Zoetis states explicitly on their website that they do not sell their product to online pharmacies. This leaves us to wonder where the product is coming from, since online pharmacies often refuse to disclose their product sources. Below is the full statement taken from the Zoetis website:
“We do not sell our prescription medications for dogs and cats to retail outlets, pet supply stores, internet sites or any other distribution facility where a veterinary-client-patient relationship does not exist – nor do we support in any way.”
If something happens to your pet, who is currently under our care, and an online pharmacy is “at fault” you will have no recourse, and they will offer you no assistance. These are large corporations that only care about their customers as far as their buying/selling relationship extends. If your pet’s health suffered as the result of our actions here at the hospital we would be making time for you and your pet around the clock and going above and beyond to make sure that your pet is restored to full health. If your pet’s health suffers as the result of a faulty, fake, or expired product sold to you by an online pharmacy they will likely (as seen in their online reviews) ignore all of your attempts to contact them, since their carefully crafted disclaimers free them from any liability even where reckless endangerment of your pet is concerned.
As the result of the aforementioned circumstances Gull Point Animal Hospital cannot in good faith approve prescription requests from online pharmacies.
