Microchipping at Gull Point
At Gull Point Animal Hospital we use AKC Reunite microchips with prepaid registration. This is very important, because it means that after you pay this one-time fee your pet's information is stored where it can be accessed by anyone with your pet's microchip number for life! Other companies require that you pay annual "renewal" fees, otherwise they will withhold you information, rendering the microchip useless.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Why should I microchip my pet?
Microchipping allows your pet to be identified in the event that they become separated from you. This identification method becomes especially important if your pet does not wear a collar, or somehow becomes separated from it. Another benefit of microchipping is as a method of proving ownership. If your pet becomes lost, not everyone is kind enough to search for the owner, and they may even seek to adopt your pet as their own. In this case the microchip, which would be registered under your name, would become a crucial tool in bringing your pet home to you.
When should I microchip my pet?
We recommend microchipping pets as early as possible! You never know when you might become separated from your precious furry friend. It is more convenient, and a painless experience is guaranteed, if we microchip while the animal is under anesthesia (as with a surgery like a spay/neuter, tumor removal, or dental cleaning). However, we can still insert a microchip during any routine appointment.
What is the microchipping process like?
The microchip is small, and is inserted between a pet's shoulder-blades with a pre-loaded syringe. The process is very quick, and typically pets show no signs of pain.
How much does it cost to microchip my pet?
As of May 2023 microchipping is $70, which includes the microchip, the insertion, and the lifetime membership to the AKC Reunite database.
