Declawing
Declawing is a procedure performed on cats that involves the surgical amputation of the first joint of each digit, removing the distal part of each toe, and rendering the patient permanently without claws.
Our Policy
- We are only willing to consider performing a declaw procedure if one of the following applies to your situation:
- You have tried multiple alternatives (scratching posts, nail caps, training, hormone sprays, etc.).
- You or a member of your household have a documented medical condition that would make a cat scratch a threat to your health.
- Your cat's aggression renders it unmanageable in your day-to-day life.
- We do not amputate based on owner convenience! This procedure must be deemed necessary in order for our team to agree to go forward with the surgery.
- Pain control is a required part of the declaw process at Gull Point. We will administer injectable pain medication before the patient wakes up after surgery, and the patient will be sent home with oral pain medication as needed.
